Nebraska Pit Stop

On the road again...
 Hola from Nebraska! After cruising along on I-80 all day, we've stopped for the night in North Platte, Nebraska. We were hoping to make it all the way to Colorado tonight, however, our Jeep had other ideas. We're having an issue with it that could be an easy fix...but maybe not...and we won't be able to find out until 8 am tomorrow when the repair shop opens. And the movers are supposed to be delivering our stuff to our apartment tomorrow, so I really don't know how it's all going to work out. (Plus our other Jeep that we shipped out Colorado has been having issues as well, so I think it's pretty safe to say that we're going to be buying a new car ASAP...let me know if you're in the market for a non-reliable Jeep...that's not a joke) Pray for us that everything works out and that we somehow get to Colorado tomorrow! :)

I actually wrote this post earlier today...the drive from Chicago to Nebraska isn't super exciting (understatement of the century) so I wrote down some random thoughts to keep myself from getting bored out of my gourd. However, America's heartland doesn't have great 3G coverage (shocking), hence why I'm just posting now. Here are my random road ramblings, enjoy...

We left Chi-town early this morning, and driving through both Iowa and Nebraska has just been brutally hot. The temp gauge in the Jeep was at 102 degrees all afternoon. I love hot weather and I've been in the South for a year so I shouldn't be complaining, but I just wasn't expecting it to be so scorching!

Also, Nebraska is really flat. I knew that's how it was going to be, but I'm just reiterating it. There's nothing here. And it's flat. I did expect it to be more yellow cornfields, but everything is all green since the corn won't be ready for awhile. So lots of flat green fields. Remind me not to ever move here. (Sorry if you're from Nebraska...I think I'm just ornery about the Jeep!)

And speaking of Chicago, sorry if yesterday's post was a little scattered. I was literally half asleep when I wrote it, but I had to do something to entertain myself while I was waiting for Cam to get out of the bathroom. Ha...I wish that were a joke.

I want to send a big thanks to my friend Alex and her super sweet magazine job; she read my post about how I like Marie Claire, so she brought me some issues from work to read on my 1239841 hour drive today. AND she got me a subscription to the magazine, so I'm really excited to start getting that at our new place! So super thoughtful of her :)

And while I'm on the subject of thank yous, I want to say THANK YOU so much for all the sweet comments/emails I've received about our move! I really appreciate it and will respond as soon as I am no longer living out of a suitcase...so hopefully soon? But it really does make my day every time I get a nice comment so thanks a bunch! :) :)

In other news, this week hasn't been very conducive to working out or eating healthy...at all. But I know that it's ok and I'll get back on track once we get to Colorado and life gets back to normal next week. However, I did manage to get in one little workout at my parents' house though, so I wanted to share it with everyone because I felt was actually pretty effective (aka I was tired and sweaty when it was done!) Before leaving South Carolina, I had been pretty consistent with my Body Pump classes so I wanted to do some strength exercises in order to work on preserving the muscle I've built. However, I didn't have any weights with me, so I just did a quick little workout right in my driveway using my own body weight for resistance. After taking Lola for a 50-minute walk with my mom (aka very light cardio) here's the circuit that I did:

Upper Body
-50 jumping jacks
-15 dips (off my front porch)
-15 push ups
Repeat 3x then move on to...

Abs
-50 jumping jacks
-5 sets of 25 ab exercises (Standard crunches, Bicycles, Leg lifts, etc...I can't remember now which specific ones I did...)


Lower Body
-50 jumping jacks
-25 standard squats
-50 standard walking lunges (alternating legs, so you end up doing 25 on each side...I was at this point in my workout when the mailman came by and saw me lunging up the driveway...awkward)
-25 wide stance lunges
-50 plyometric lunges, alternating legs (hate these)
-25 standard lunges
-50 walking lunges, except this time step backwards instead of forward alternating legs (it works the muscle in a different way)

Stretch and shower :)

It took me about 25 minutes to get through it, and it definitely works all your muscles while still keeping your heart rate up. This is something that can be done anywhere, so depending on how ambitious I'm feeing I may try to do it again tomorrow morning while we're waiting for the repair shop to open...I don't know what the workout room situation is like at the North Platte Quality Inn & Suites (Nebraska's nicest dog friendly hotel...ummm...) but I guess we'll find out tomorrow!

While we're on the subject of making healthy choices while traveling, I did choose to get Subway instead of McDonald's for lunch today! Go me. I loaded up my six inch turkey sub on wheat with lots of yummy veggies! It was delish and nutrish (my word)...and then I proceeded to stop at Dairy Queen for a dipped cone a few hours later...hey, this Nebraska heat is no joke!

One last thing while I'm being random--I wanted to see if anyone had any suggestions for how I can improve my blog! Once we get settled in Colorado, something I'd like to do is revamp In The Pink & Green's design and content a little bit. Since we now have our new camera and will hopefully be taking some good pics in Colorado, I'd like to make the layout a little more photo-centric and just make the overall look a little more clean and modern. So if anyone has any ideas, questions, or suggestions for content I should include, I'd love to hear them! Feel free to comment or shoot me an email :)

Alrighty, we're off to go try and grab a quick bite to eat and then hit the hay as I know Cam and I are going to need a good night's sleep because I have a feeling tomorrow is going to be somewhat trying...but I know it'll all work out and we'll get to Colorado one way or another...I'll keep ya posted...never a dull moment I tell ya! :)
