Family // May Trip to Michigan

Happy Friday everyone!

Henry and I are finally back in Portland after spending over two weeks in Michigan spending time with my family. We took Henry to Michigan for the first time back in March, but we weren't sure when we'd be going back. However, Cameron had two work trips come up back to back in May, and so it seemed like a perfect time to go. And since both of Cameron's trips were on the East Coast, he was actually able to Michigan for the weekend in between, which was nice so that way he could see everyone in Michigan too, plus that way he wouldn't have to be away from Henry for such a long time :)

I actually meant to put up a post about our trip to Michigan back in March...but I never got around to it. This time, I ended up not using my actual camera at all the entire time I was there and instead I just snapped a few pictures on my phone. Obviously I haven't had quite as much time for blogging over the past few months as it is and I'm realizing that when it comes to family stuff, I don't want to put pressure on myself to try to blog about every little thing we do. Our time together is precious and my first priority is being present and enjoying it, not worrying about sharing every moment on my blog or social media. That said, on the plane ride back to Oregon, I was looking back through all the pictures on my phone from the past two weeks and couldn't help but sharing a few of my favorites :)

I flew there and back by myself with Henry, and thankfully, he did great on the plane! Now that we have a few trips under our belt, I'm putting together a post about traveling with a baby so stay tuned for that! Also, my eyebrows look a little nuts...anything to try and get my baby to smile for a selfie...ha!

Once my sister found out we were coming to Michigan, she decided to fly in from New York for the weekend as well, so that was awesome! She's getting married this summer but it's been hard to try to coordinate a time for a bridal shower with everyone's schedules and the fact that we live on opposite sides of the country. However, my mom and I ended up throwing a bridal shower with our family for her while she was home and it turned out really cute! It was really nice to be able to celebrate her, especially since not everyone will be able to be at her wedding being that it's in France. The iPhone photos from the shower aren't the best, but there was lots of black, white, and pink!

My sister hadn't seen Henry since March and so they had fun hanging out together :)

She was only there for the weekend, but Henry and I were there at my parents' house the entire time and so he got lots of time with his Grammy and Grampy. My parents were clearly loving it :)

Henry also got to spend quite a bit of time with his great grandparents while we were in Michigan, and that was really special. My grandparents live close to my parents and so I was glad they were able to see Henry again because I feel like he has changed a lot since they first saw him in March.

We had lots of time with family while we were in Michigan, including time with my cousins. My cousin Olivia's little boy is a year older than Henry and seeing them together is so cute! I am excited for the two of them to be able to run around and play with each other once Henry is a little bigger :)

We were telling Luke to hold Henry's hand and so he was very gingerly trying to grab his finger...haha :)

My cousin Kayla just graduated from college, and so we celebrated that while she I was home. She and I are the ones in our family that love cake so obviously we needed a picture together :)

In addition to spending time with family, I was able to get my haircut, do some shopping (and go to Tim Horton's...definitely something I miss about Michigan!) and visit with friends. I forgot to take pictures with some of my friends I saw, but it was nice to catch up with people and have a little me time :)

Henry was really good while we were in Michigan; he's super social and loves having people around to entertain him. He's at such a cute age where he's just laughing and smiling all the time :)

Henry's toys at Grammy and Grampy's > Henry's toy's at home...ha!
He also got to wear a lot of his Michigan gear!
His faces kill me :)

I already posted this on Instagram, but how funny is this side by side of me as a baby with Henry?

The day I flew home, my sister happened to have a flight for work connecting through Detroit and she was able to take a later flight out so she could have a long layover to hang out with us. We had lunch in Ann Arbor (and had to go to Zingerman's of course!) and it was nice to visit a little bit more.

Plus, since we had flights out at the same time it was a huge help having her with me at the airport to help out with the baby!

It was really great to have some time with my family and it's always nice to be back in Michigan. We were there last May over Memorial Day weekend, and I had just told everyone that I was pregnant  with Henry so it's really crazy how much can change in a year!

But even though I had a great time in Michigan, it's also nice to be back home in Portland too. Unpacking and getting back in the groove of things seems to take much longer with a baby, but I'm hoping that this weekend things I can get everything done and things will start to get back to normal :)

Have a great weekend everyone! (And stay tuned for a fun giveaway coming up soon....)

Family // Fall in Michigan + NYC

Happy Friday and Happy Halloween everyone!

I was so tempted to get or make one of those cute Halloween maternity shirts with the skeletons on them (like this) but honestly with a little over a month of pregnancy to go, I really didn't feel like buying something to just wear today when I'm not going to be doing anything besides working and staying home eating Halloween candy. Whomp whomp. Cameron did have the idea that he could dress up as Charlie Brown and I could dress up as the Great Pumpkin...which, I think he was kidding about? But it would have been kind of funny. Instead, we are going to have a low-key Halloween at home (hopefully we'll get some trick-or-treaters!) and my costume is going to involve yoga pants and a sweatshirt aka pretty much what I wear every day and I'm totally fine with that :)

Yesterday, I shared my monthly favorites for October, but one of my favorite things about the past month that I didn't mention is the fact that I got to spend a lot of time with my family! I was looking through my photos on my computer/phone last night and realized I had a bunch I hadn't shared, and so I thought today would be the perfect time for a little end-of-the-month photo dump...

I went home to Michigan in late September for my baby shower, but while I was there I got to spend time with my parents and do some other fun fall things like go to the cider mill!
I also got to see with quite a few friends while I was home too, including my sweet friend Laura!
And Cam got to spend time with two of his best friends, Neil and Jeff :)
Jeff, Laura, & Theo aka the cutest little fam ever :)
Their little man is going to be two soon, which is crazy because it seems like he was just a newborn!
I also went with my parents to this grape farm near our house that I had never been to before
(and I made them take bump photos for me, ha!)
I also got to spend time with my grandparents (and the rest of my extended family) which was nice!
From Michigan, I actually flew to NYC for a few days and that was a really fun (albeit quick) trip. I love New York City and the fall is definitely the best time to go for sure! Since my sister lives there, I really enjoy that every time I visit, we always do/see different things. Normally, we never spend much time near Times Square but this time, our hotel was right in that area and so we were in that part of town quite a bit. It's definitely super touristy and crowded, but it's fun in a way too because it really makes you feel like you're in New York City! (Although I'm probably set on spending time there for awhile, ha!) We spent a lot of time with my sister and Ben, and had absolutely perfect weather the whole trip. I actually didn't get out my real camera at all while I was there so all these photos are from my iPhone :) A few of them may look familiar if you follow me on Instagram, and so be sure to check out my Instagram feed if you're interested in seeing more photos or where we ate this trip because we had some really delicious meals while we were there!

If you're on the Upper East Side, the Carl Schurz Park is a really lovely spot to check out!
My mom and I went with my sister to see her try on wedding dresses and that was SO fun! We went to Lovely Bride (which has been featured on COJ) and it was (for lack of a better word) lovely!

Dad and Ben after our pizza dinner here - so delicious!
Morning time (sans makeup, blah) with the parents in Times Square
Loved this photo I got on the Brooklyn Bridge!
There are so many beautiful details everywhere you look in New York City!
My sister and Ben actually got engagement photos taken while we were there, and I tagged along with them and their photographer for the afternoon, which was really fun! I just snapped a few pictures with my phone, but they got so many cool shots like this bubble one in Central Park!
Central Park in the fall is just so stunning and the perfect place for photos!
(This pic of them is just from my phone, so the ones from the photographer are even better)
Her photographer even got a couple of Melissa and I too - this photo is from her, not my iPhone :)
Great dinner with family, along with some of Ben & Melissa's friends

Pretty soon after I got home from NYC, I had my wonderful baby shower here in Portland! My mom flew out from Michigan for that, but I didn't really take many pictures that weekend beyond at the shower. However, we had a really nice time (along with some good meals!) while she was here.

My mom was also there when Kelsey took maternity photos for us (and helped wrangle Lola who was not really cooperating) and so she snapped a few of the two of us which was really sweet!

It's definitely a little tough having my family on the opposite side of the country, but it's really special when we do get to spend time together. They'll all be making the trip out here next month, and I'm looking forward to seeing everyone again soon! (Along with that whole having a baby thing...ha!)
