Goodbye Spring, Hello Summer!

Happy Friday everyone and cheers to the weekend!

Last month, I posted a little to-do list of things I was hoping to accomplish this spring. I know that summer doesn't technically start for another few weeks, but with today today being the last day of May I figured that it was as good a time as any to post an update on my progress!

Spring 2013 To-Do List

Get a hair cut--Check!

Go to San Francisco--Check and check!

Focus on eating 80-90% Paleo--Check!
Definitely haven't been perfect with this one but now that so much great produce is in season, it's much easier to eat lots of fruits and veggies!

Try a new recipe for dinner each week--Check!
Although I can't say that we've exactly tried one each week, we have made quite a few new dishes recently that we've really enjoyed. I have a hard time blogging about dinner recipes though because I'm usually starving and just want to eat, plus since it's dark out the photos never turn out well. However, some of the new meals we've enjoyed include these potato skins, this steak with chimichurri sauce, this shrimp scampi, and fish tacos! (Working on putting together a good recipe for those to share soon!)

Visit a National Park
While we did go camping, we weren't able to make it a national park--hoping we'll be able to   make it to Yosemite some time this summer though!

Clean out my closet--Check!

Invest in some new spring pieces--Check!
I picked up these boyfriend jeans, these sandals, these shorts, this tanks, this dress, and a few other new pieces lately. I still have a few holes in my wardrobe that I'd like to fill, but I think that's pretty much always true for every woman!

Start running again
I actually did try running a few times this spring, but my knee seemed to bother me a little bit so I haven't been pushing it. Instead, I'm trying to attend spin class more regularly.

Be more organized at work
Pretty sure that this will be a perpetual item on my to-do list that never quite gets accomplished.

Go wine tasting--Check!
Even though we had a great time in Napa/Sonoma recently, there's so much to see in that region that I'd really love to go back again this summer!

Stay on top of spring cleaning
Yeah, this didn't quite happen as much as I would have liked--oh well!

Schedule time to connect with friends
I wasn't as good about this as I would have liked, another work in progress!

Get out and hike--Check!

Overall, it's been a great spring but I am so looking forward to summer! The upcoming month is going to be filled with lots of travel, weddings, graduations, bridal showers, and lots of time with friends and family--I can't wait! On that note, have a great weekend everyone!

Spring To-Do List

Happy Monday everyone! How was your weekend?

Ours was pretty low-key, in a good way. Friday night, I went out for drinks and fish tacos with a fellow Tahoe blogger, which was a lot of fun! Saturday was pretty much gym, lunch and errands with the hubs, and then getting some stuff done around the house. Yesterday, we took Lola for a walk on a new-to-us trail and soaked in the beauty of Tahoe...even if it was a super windy day! I posted the picture above on Instagram yesterday, and I ended up taking some additional pictures with our camera that I'll be sharing later this week.

Anyway, although it's not exactly warm here in Tahoe yet, the sunshine and blue skies have me really excited for spring! Heavenly (the ski resort by our house) closed for the season yesterday and I'm looking forward to more free time for weekend trips over the next couple of months. We've got four out of state weddings to attend between June and August, so I already know our summer will be busy to say the least. That's why I wanted to take this time between now and Memorial Day to really focus on exploring some places closer to Tahoe, as well as being productive and getting a few things done. And since I'm a compulsive list maker, I thought I'd do what I've done for other seasons in the past and share my to-do list!

Spring 2013 To-Do List

Get a hair cut
This one is way overdue.

Go to San Francisco
I haven't been since October, so I'm eager to go back for a weekend soon!

Focus on eating 80-90% Paleo
I feel (and look) my best when I eliminate most sugar/grains from my diet, so since we won't be traveling much over the next few weeks, I really want to make eating healthy a priority.

Try a new recipe for dinner each week
Now that more veggies are in season, I really want to put some new meals in our weekly rotations...I tried a recipe this weekend that was delicious (and I'll be sharing it later this week!) so I'm looking forward to experimenting in the kitchen more this spring.

Visit a National Park
I'm hoping we'll either be able to take a trip back to Yosemite or venture a little further south to see Sequoia & Kings Canyon National Parks...or maybe both!

Clean out my closet
I got a head start on this over the weekend and it feels great to get rid of things I no longer wear...between Cam and I, we've already filled 3 garbage bags!

Invest in some new spring pieces
Out with the old, in with the new! As I cleaned out my closet, I'm definitely in need of a few new pieces. One my list? Boyfriend jeans, new sandals, and some higher quality basics likes tees and tanks, as some of mine (that I'm getting rid of) are worn out.

Start running again
Although I do love going our gym, I'd like to incorporate running back into my fitness routine at least once a week this spring. I don't have plans for any upcoming races, I just miss spending that time outside to clear my head.

Be more organized at work
This is a constant work in progress for me. I really love my job, but it involves a lot of different balls being in the air at once, and I could be better about working smarter, not harder. I want to work on managing my stress level and staying on top of things.

Go wine tasting
Since living in Tahoe, we've only gone out to Napa/Sonoma once (and it was only for the day!) so I'm dying to take another trip out there soon. Also, Sunset Magazine had a great feature this month on some of the wineries/restaurants in the California Gold Country region and they are even closer to us than Napa, so I'd love to explore that area as well.

Stay on top of spring cleaning
I feel such a sense of peace when the house is clean, and Cameron and I got a great jump start on spring cleaning this weekend. Now I want work on tackling some deep cleaning projects and actually put some of my Pinterest ideas to use!

Schedule time to connect with friends
As a recruiter, I'm on the phone all day with work so I'm not always the best with picking up the phone to call my friends. Plus, many of them live on the East Coast so with the time difference we can end up playing phone tag for weeks before we connect. I really want to make more of an effort to schedule time for phone dates to catch up with friends this spring!

Get out and hike
Spring is a great time for hiking as waterfall are roaring full force after the snow melt and wild flowers are in full bloom. Plus, with April/May being shoulder season (aka after the ski season but before the summer crowds) in Tahoe, it's a perfect time to get out and enjoy the beauty of the Sierras. I love hiking and there are quite a few different trails that Cam and I have on our list that we'd love to explore ASAP.

So there you have it, my goals for the rest of April and May...what about you? Any fun plans for spring? I'd love to hear!

Hope your Monday is off to a great start! Xoxo

Christmas Checklist

Hello, hello!

I hope everyone had an amazing Christmas! This was my first time in a few years to actually be at home with my family in Michigan on Dec. 25th and we had a really great day. I'll be sharing more next week, but for now I want to enjoy all the time in Michigan I have left before we leave tomorrow.

It's kind of sad because it seems like the holiday season goes by more quickly each year and it's hard to believe Christmas is already over! Well, it's not technically over for us yet as we still have Christmas, Part 2 with Cam's family this weekend out in Oregon, plus I think that the holidays aren't really over until after New Year's Day. So while there are still a few days left, I figured I'd go ahead and share how we did on our Christmas To-Do list! We were actually able to get most of the items completed...while some will have to wait for next year!

Book tickets home to Michigan for Christmas
(Photo from my grandparents' house this weekend)

Get a Christmas tree

Watch the following Christmas movies: Love Actually, Elf, Miracle on 34th Street, Christmas Vacation, The Holiday, and It's a Wonderful Life

Decorate our house/tree
Mail Christmas Cards {Our card for this year}

Adopt a family/buy gifts for people in need

Have an Ugly Sweater party
Do some sort of Christmas craft (I didn't have time this year, but I did make these from a Pinterest recipe I found and they came out great!)
Bake at least 5 kinds of cookies (New favorites for this year: These and these)
Workout at least 4 times a week (We did for the two weeks that we were actually home in Tahoe this month...ha!)
Go to see the Nutcracker Ballet (Next year we are definitely doing this!)

Make a really good batch of hot cocoa to enjoy on a snowy night

Get our Christmas shopping done ASAP (This kind of dragged out...but it's done now!)

Go to candlelight Christmas Eve service

Keep the house clean during the month of December (Eh, we did alright...)

How about you? Did you do anything fun this holiday season?

{Lola double checking with Santa to make sure she was on the nice list}
Alrighty, that's all for me today! Have a great day everyone! Xoxo

PS: Don't forget to vote for me in the Online Shoes Contest! I'm in dead last (ha!) but your votes would still be very much, by voting you can enter to win your own pair of Sorel boots! {Vote here}

Fall Bucket List Recap

Happy Black Friday everyone!
Who went out shopping this morning?! Did you find any good deals?

Now that Thanksgiving is over, it's time to officially kick off the holiday season and I couldn't be more excited! (Even though who am I kidding, I've been listening to Christmas music the past month and I have no shame in admitting that) Before I get too deep in to Christmas elf mode, I wanted to take a moment to look back and reflect on this fall because it's been a really great couple of months. And yes I realize it is still technically fall until December 21st, but since the upcoming month is going to be all about celebrating the year's two biggest birthdays (mine and Jesus's...duh) I figure we might as just go ahead and close the lid on all things autumn right now.

Because obviously the compulsive list maker in me already has a whole list of things I want to do in the next month for Christmas. Pretty sure these bucket list are going to be a regular thing here on this blog.

Get excited.

Anyway, here's the list of things I set out to do back in the beginning of September, along with how I did in terms of actually getting them done! (I included links to the posts of items I checked off/blogged about!)

(I did on most days where I wasn't swamped with work/that it wasn't freezing outside!)

 Go to San Francisco
Really stick to having one "No-TV Night" a week
(I'll admit, we didn't stick to this at many new fall shows to watch!)

Enjoy my parents' visit to Tahoe
Take better care of myself--get more sleep/floss everyday!
(Both of these are still a work in progress)

  Make 2 different pumpkin recipes {here, here, and here}
Get together with friends to watch a Michigan Football game and make "M" cookies

 Go to Oregon

 Get a haircut/new glasses
(Since I already bought contacts this year, I'm waiting until after the first of the year to get glasses so I can use the vision insurance credit for 2013!)

 Run a 10K
Ride the gondola at Heavenly and have a picnic
(We didn't end up getting to do this before they closed it for the fall but we'll be riding it soon enough come ski season!)

 Go to the apple orchard

 Have donuts/cider
(in addition to getting them at Apple Hill, I also got them here)
Go back to Napa/Sonoma
(We ran out of time to do this, so hopefully we can make it back in the spring!)
Do at least 3 new hikes
(We only got in one longer hike this fall, and it didn't go so well...but we did get to do some exploring on the trails around our house though!)

(We didn't dress up but we did carve pumpkins and eat cupcakes with our neighbors!)
Get to 500 blog followers
(Not quite there yet, but that's totally fine! I've definitely enjoyed connecting with quite a few new-to-me bloggers this fall...and if you're a new reader, welcome!)

 Make 2 different apple recipes {here, here, and here}

 Read at least 5 books
(I have really been slacking on the reading the past few months ever since my Kindle broke in the beginning of the

Be more social here in Tahoe
Find an organization to volunteer with here in Tahoe
(Still haven't done this...I'm putting it on the list for 2013!)

Give away some clothes/"stuff" to charity

All these photos are from my Instagram account {follow me here} but if you click on the links below each post, you can find the full recap/more photos.
Have a lovely weekend and enjoy all of your Thanksgiving leftovers! Xoxo

PS: See the recap of my summer bucket list here. Good times.

(Full disclosure: I wrote/scheduled this post before we left...but we get back in to the states today, so I'll definitely be sharing all our photos from the trip soon!)

My Fall Bucket List

Happy Wednesday and Happy September!

We are back from our trip to NYC and had such an amazing time. If you follow me on Instagram, you've probably already seen a lot of my photos, but I will be sharing more...hopefully later this week. I was going to put them up today, however, I got them most terrible migraine last night that totally wiped me out, so no NYC post yet. Stay tuned though!
In the meantime, I thought I'd go ahead and put up my fall to-do list!
I was going to wait and put it up closer to the "official" first day of fall later this month, but since it's a little bit cool and gray today here in Tahoe, I thought I'd just go ahead and put it up now. I originally put up a post like this for summer over Memorial Day weekend, and then just last week I recapped how we did at doing the things on my list. For me, taking time at the beginning of a new season to really think about what I want to do is a fun way to get excited about the coming months. I feel like time goes by so fast and having a written out list helps me focus and make sure that we don't miss out on any of my favorite seasonal activities. Plus, being a compulsive list maker it's just a fun post for me to write! Fall is one of my favorite times of year, and I'm really excited about what's in store. You'll notice that some things on this list were carried over from things that we didn't get around to doing over the summer, while others are new goals, and a lot of them are on a little bit smaller scale than my summer list. While summer tends to be more go-go-go for us, one thing that's a priority for me as we enter this new season is really just taking time to slow down a little bit and find a better balance between activity and rest.
Here's what I'm hoping to accomplish between now and Thanksgiving!
(Because after Thanksgiving there will be a Christmas to-do list...obviously)
How cute is this printable?! You can buy it here.
Fall 2012
Get new boots
Use my mini muffin pan
Take Lola on a walk everyday
(I'll admit, some days I get really busy and this doesn't always happen, so I want to make sure I take advantage of walking while I can before there is snow on the ground!)
Go to San Francisco
Really stick to having one "No-TV Night" a week
Enjoy my parents' visit to Tahoe
Take better care of myself--get more sleep/floss everyday!
(As I mentioned, I've been struggling with migraines and although I cannot pinpoint a specific trigger, one thing that really seems to exacerbate this problem is not getting enough sleep. Now that it's starting to cool off at night and get dark earlier, I want to make a concerted effort over the next few months to get my butt in bed as early as possible! I also just had my dental exam last week and the dentist told me that my teeth look perfect, but my gums are not as healthy as they could be and that could cause serious problems down the road. I brush my teeth 2-3x a day, but I'll admit, I'm not so good with flossing and it's something I want to work on!)
Make 2 different pumpkin recipes
Get together with friends to watch a Michigan Football game and make "M" cookies
Go to Oregon
Get a haircut/new glasses
(I am way overdue for both of these things!)
Run a 10K
Ride the gondola at Heavenly and have a picnic
Go to the apple orchard and have donuts/cider
(We call them cider mills in Michigan, but I don't think that's what people call them out here...)
Go back to Napa/Sonoma
Do at least 3 new hikes
Dress up and do something fun for Halloween
Get to 500 blog followers
(So I realize this may seem like kind of a shallow goal, but let me explain. I love writing my blog and would honestly continue to do it if no one ever read it. At the same time, I really enjoy the community aspect of blogging and I am so thankful for all the wonderful bloggers I've been able to connect with over the past year. That's why I'd love to continue to grow my own blog in hopes to continue to connect with a wider range of people)
Make 2 different apple recipes
Read at least 5 books
Be more social here in Tahoe
(Being we do travel so much, sometimes it's hard to build relationships where we live. However, Cam and I have been fortunate to meet some wonderful people here in Tahoe, so this fall I really want to make more of an effort to get together with people, have dinner, and just hang out close to home!)
Carve pumpkins
Find an organization to volunteer with here in Tahoe
Give away some clothes/"stuff" to charity
Travel to Israel/Turkey
(More on that next week!)
*One thing notably absent from this list: Drinking a Pumpkin Spice Latte. Since they re-appeared on Starbucks menus earlier this month, I've been seeing tweets/FB statuses/Instagrams/blog posts about them, and it seems like everyone is obsessed with them except for me. I'm pretty sure I'm the only blogger who doesn't like them; to me they taste like drinking a scented candle and just gross me out!*
So that's what is on my agenda for autumn, what about you? What's on your fall bucket list? I'd love to hear! Xoxo
