Christmas // Home for the Holidays

Hello, hello! Long time, no blog :) First of all, thank you SO much for all your sweet comments on the birth of our baby boy last week, it really means a lot. We have been just enjoying each day with Henry since his arrival last Monday, and I can't believe it's already been over a week. The days and nights have been kind of a blur so far and I just realized that Christmas is a week from tomorrow...crazy!

I honestly haven't even had a chance to download any of the photos from our camera since he was born, and I'm hoping to sit down and write out his birth story soon. But in the meantime, I thought I'd share some of the photos I took before he was born of our house decorated for Christmas! We really didn't do too much in terms of decorations this year since we were more focused on getting ready for the baby. But since this is our first Christmas in our new house, it's special and I wanted to document how things looked this year as I'm sure it will continue to evolve over future Christmases!

By the way, our fur baby is adjusting really well to Henry's arrival for those of you wondering! She spent some time over at Cam's parents' house while we were in the hospital and after we first got home, but she's been really great, albeit not super interested, when it comes to the baby so far!

One of the things I told Cameron that was really important to me this year was to get some Christmas lights up on the house before the baby came. He and my dad put them up after Thanksgiving and I'm really happy with how they turned out! We may change them up for future Christmases, but for now it's so cozy to be able to turn them on at night when we're sitting inside with the baby :)

The only other thing decorations-wise that was really important to me this year was getting our tree up and decorated before the baby came. We got the tree the day after Thanksgiving and it was fun to pull out our collection of ornaments that we've accumulated from our travels over the past few years.

Some of the new ornaments we added this year were from Park City...
(There were other new ones but those are just the ones that jumped out at me!)

Before the baby came, I envisioned snuggling with him by the tree. We've been doing lots of that since coming home from the hospital and it's even more wonderful than I imagined! :)

Another new Christmas addition this year is this gorgeous print from Lindsay Letters!
O Holy Night is one of my favorite Christmas carols and I absolutely love it :)

Another thing I love about the holidays is sending Christmas cards (here's our card for this year ICYMI!) and I really wanted a cute way to display them. I came across this tutorial on Pinterest recently and my handy husband was sweet enough to make it for me before the baby came!

I love how it turned out, and it's been fun adding even more cards since I took these photos!

One of the things I love about our house is the these built-ins, but wasn't really sure how I wanted to style them. I just displayed some things we had, including our nativity set from our trip to Israel, and called it a day. Next year, I think I'll add a garland or do something to make it a little more festive!

As far as stockings, I did pick up this one for baby Henry to use this year because I couldn't resist! However, one of my projects for next Christmas is to get (or make) new stockings for our family that we'll be able to have for years to come...but I wasn't going to worry about that this Christmas!

And I do feel a little bit like a bad dog mom because sweet Lola doesn't even have a as consolation I thought she deserved a few more pictures in this post :)

I'm hoping to share some more baby photos/details soon, but for now my first priority is staying off the computer and spending time with my sweet little Henry boy! Feel free to keep up with me on Instagram (@inthepinkandgreen) though as I'll be sharing more photos there in the meantime.
I hope everyone is having a wonderful holiday season!

Baby // He's Here!

Today, I couldn't be happier to share the news that Cameron and I welcomed our son, Henry William, into the world last Monday! I announced it on Instagram last week (thanks for all your sweet comments btw!) but wanted to officially share the news here too. We are so in love with this little guy and have been soaking up time with him over the past week. He's such a sweet cuddly baby and I could seriously just stare at him all day - it's still so surreal to me that he's here and he's ours!

Baby // Our Modern Rustic Nursery

Happy Sunday everyone! I don't normally post on the weekends, but since we're still waiting on baby boy to make his debut, I thought that I'd just go ahead and share some photos of his nursery today!

When we found out we were having a boy, Cameron and I were very much on the same page with what we wanted for the nursery...which was nice because I don't think that would have necessarily been the case if we were having a girl ;) (Let's just say I like pink a little more than he does...)

We didn't want to have a specific "theme" for our nursery per say, but knew we wanted the room to have a rustic yet modern, outdoors-y, Portland-y vibe that wasn't overly babyish. (You can see some of our initial inspiration here) We love visiting national parks and knew we wanted to incorporate that into the room somehow as well, so with that in mind, the room slowly but surely came together!

I'm so happy with how the nursery turned out! What makes it really special is that it was a joint effort between Cameron and I when it came to deciding on everything, and I love that the room represents both of us. However, when it came to actually putting the nursery together, I have to give major props to Cam because he was the one that put in the work to bring our vision to life! He painted the room, put together all the furniture, hung every single thing on the walls, and made many trips to Home Depot to make this nursery a reality. I'm so thankful for all the time and effort he put in!

I love the way all the various details of the nursery came together and wanted to highlight some of them individually. I've included all the sources for everything at the end of the post! :)

One of the things I knew for sure that I wanted for the nursery was these wall bookshelves that are the rage on Pinterest. (There are a ton of different tutorials/shelf options out there!) I love how much color they add to the room, and I can't wait to read all these books to our little guy!
We chose our crib pretty early on in the process and I love the modern shape. Initially we weren't sure if we wanted to get it in gray or dark wood, but once we decided that we were going with gray walls, it made the choice pretty easy. Because the ceilings in the nursery are slanted, there was no space for a mobile over the crib. However, I still wanted something to add color and thought that a felt garland would be perfect. I absolutely love the way this one from Heyday Fashion turned out!
We had to have some storage for his stuffed animal collection, including the little lamb that I gave to Cameron back in the spring to tell him that we were having a baby!
We knew we wanted some vintage-style prints from places we'd been, and so Lake Tahoe and Rocky Mountain National Park seemed like obvious choices! I'm also kind of obsessed with this little red rocking moose, which was one of the first things we bought for the nursery :)
Getting a good picture of the curtains during the day was a little tough, but the panels are actually fabric shower curtains that I had my sister help me alter while she was in town last week. I think all the camping-themed symbols go perfectly with the vibe we were trying to achieve for the room.
Cameron came up with the idea to use galvanized piping for the curtain hardware on one of our many Home Depot trips, and I really love the industrial element it adds to the room.
This little snippet of the room is probably my favorite! I knew that I wanted to put some antlers in the nursery, so my dad sent me two sets from Michigan from deer that he shot back in the 80's (and that my grandfather actually mounted) so they are definitely meaningful to have in our little boy's room! The print was one Cam picked out and it reminds me of our trip to Yosemite. I also knew for sure that I wanted a Pendleton blanket for our little Oregon baby and I love the one we ended up with.
The final thing that makes this little corner complete is this pendant light...Cameron actually made it! After seeing a few pricier versions that I liked at Schoolhouse Electric, he was convinced he could make one himself. He ordered all the parts online, spray painted the bulb cage, and put everything together and it ended up turning out really great! (And much cheaper than the Schoolhouse version!) I love the warmth that the Edison lightbulb adds to the room (especially at night!)
Initially, we were planning on getting a more traditional wood rocker for the nursery, however, our 1920's house has an extremely narrow stairway and literally no glider/rocking chair would fit up the stairs. Instead we opted to go with one from Ikea that we could put together in the room, and it's actually really comfy! As for the dresser, this one (also from Ikea!) seems to be a pretty popular option for nurseries to double as a changing table and it worked out perfectly for us.
The slanted ceiling in the nursery didn't leave too much space for a large gallery wall, but we were able to hang a few things over the dresser that I really love!
The adorable embroidery hoop features one of my favorite John Muir quotes and it comes from a really awesome Etsy shop, Free Spirit Jenny! She has really cute things and she actually donates 40% of her earnings to the non-profits Compassion International and Care Net Crisis Pregnancy Center.
One of my other favorite pieces in the room is this National Park map - Cameron and I have been to quite a few of them, but there are so many more that I hope we can visit together some day!
The shelf is something we repurposed from our old apartment and it gives us a little extra storage, which I know will come in handy! And then I'm absolutely in love with this gorgeous hand-lettered print from the Etsy shop, Hey Normal Day! Lindsay is actually local here to Portland and her work is beautiful. And then I just thought the canteen was cute and went with the camping vibe :)
The closet in the nursery is small, but I think it will work just fine for our little guy! I've already washed a bunch of his clothes/blankets and they're all ready for him to wear, however, I still have tags on other things. I actually bought duplicates of a few outfits in both newborn and 0-3 month sizes because I figured if he's as big as I'm thinking we may end up not even needing the newborn sizes!
I also couldn't resist getting some Christmas outfits for our little December baby :)

I am trying my best to be patient as we wait for our little man's arrival, but it's so hard! However, I'm really glad his room is all ready and waiting for him to come home! :)
