Family // Fall in Michigan + NYC

Happy Friday and Happy Halloween everyone!

I was so tempted to get or make one of those cute Halloween maternity shirts with the skeletons on them (like this) but honestly with a little over a month of pregnancy to go, I really didn't feel like buying something to just wear today when I'm not going to be doing anything besides working and staying home eating Halloween candy. Whomp whomp. Cameron did have the idea that he could dress up as Charlie Brown and I could dress up as the Great Pumpkin...which, I think he was kidding about? But it would have been kind of funny. Instead, we are going to have a low-key Halloween at home (hopefully we'll get some trick-or-treaters!) and my costume is going to involve yoga pants and a sweatshirt aka pretty much what I wear every day and I'm totally fine with that :)

Yesterday, I shared my monthly favorites for October, but one of my favorite things about the past month that I didn't mention is the fact that I got to spend a lot of time with my family! I was looking through my photos on my computer/phone last night and realized I had a bunch I hadn't shared, and so I thought today would be the perfect time for a little end-of-the-month photo dump...

I went home to Michigan in late September for my baby shower, but while I was there I got to spend time with my parents and do some other fun fall things like go to the cider mill!
I also got to see with quite a few friends while I was home too, including my sweet friend Laura!
And Cam got to spend time with two of his best friends, Neil and Jeff :)
Jeff, Laura, & Theo aka the cutest little fam ever :)
Their little man is going to be two soon, which is crazy because it seems like he was just a newborn!
I also went with my parents to this grape farm near our house that I had never been to before
(and I made them take bump photos for me, ha!)
I also got to spend time with my grandparents (and the rest of my extended family) which was nice!
From Michigan, I actually flew to NYC for a few days and that was a really fun (albeit quick) trip. I love New York City and the fall is definitely the best time to go for sure! Since my sister lives there, I really enjoy that every time I visit, we always do/see different things. Normally, we never spend much time near Times Square but this time, our hotel was right in that area and so we were in that part of town quite a bit. It's definitely super touristy and crowded, but it's fun in a way too because it really makes you feel like you're in New York City! (Although I'm probably set on spending time there for awhile, ha!) We spent a lot of time with my sister and Ben, and had absolutely perfect weather the whole trip. I actually didn't get out my real camera at all while I was there so all these photos are from my iPhone :) A few of them may look familiar if you follow me on Instagram, and so be sure to check out my Instagram feed if you're interested in seeing more photos or where we ate this trip because we had some really delicious meals while we were there!

If you're on the Upper East Side, the Carl Schurz Park is a really lovely spot to check out!
My mom and I went with my sister to see her try on wedding dresses and that was SO fun! We went to Lovely Bride (which has been featured on COJ) and it was (for lack of a better word) lovely!
Dad and Ben after our pizza dinner here - so delicious!
Morning time (sans makeup, blah) with the parents in Times Square
Loved this photo I got on the Brooklyn Bridge!
There are so many beautiful details everywhere you look in New York City!
My sister and Ben actually got engagement photos taken while we were there, and I tagged along with them and their photographer for the afternoon, which was really fun! I just snapped a few pictures with my phone, but they got so many cool shots like this bubble one in Central Park!
Central Park in the fall is just so stunning and the perfect place for photos!
(This pic of them is just from my phone, so the ones from the photographer are even better)
Her photographer even got a couple of Melissa and I too - this photo is from her, not my iPhone :)
Great dinner with family, along with some of Ben & Melissa's friends

Pretty soon after I got home from NYC, I had my wonderful baby shower here in Portland! My mom flew out from Michigan for that, but I didn't really take many pictures that weekend beyond at the shower. However, we had a really nice time (along with some good meals!) while she was here.

My mom was also there when Kelsey took maternity photos for us (and helped wrangle Lola who was not really cooperating) and so she snapped a few of the two of us which was really sweet!

It's definitely a little tough having my family on the opposite side of the country, but it's really special when we do get to spend time together. They'll all be making the trip out here next month, and I'm looking forward to seeing everyone again soon! (Along with that whole having a baby thing...ha!)

Monthly Favorites // October

Happy Thursday everyone! Even though it's not technically the last day of the month yet, I thought I'd go ahead and share my monthly favorites for October today! It's not a huge list this go-round, just a few random and fun things (that are non-pregnancy related!) that I've been loving this month...
Rifle Paper Co. 2015 'Travel the World' Calendar
It's hard to believe that it's already time to start thinking about 2015, but it will be here before you know it! I am obsessed with everything from Rifle Paper Co. and I was so excited when my mom got me their new travel calendar when we were out shopping during her recent visit to Portland for my baby shower. The illustrations are so beautiful and I can't wait to put it up come January!

Taylor Swift '1989'
No surprise this is on my favorites list I'm sure, and I really don't have anything else to say other than Taylor Swift is awesome. In an age where no one buys actual CD's, she managed to create so much hype around her album release that I thought was pretty impressive. She made people (myself included) want to go out on Monday and buy the physical album (OMG there are polaroids of Taylor in there?! Of course I have to have it!) Plus the songs on the album are so damn catchy! Love.

Trader Joe's Pumpkin Cheesecake
I've been buying my fair share of pumpkin products this month (I know, pretty much as basic white girl as it gets) but I'm most excited about the delicious pumpkin cheesecake from Trader Joe's! They had samples at our TJ's last week and it totally sold me on it.

Now that we're well into the fall, I am loving wearing dark nail polishes once again. My favorite color lately is 'Wicked', which is a super deep wine shade that looks almost black on your nails. I keep my nails pretty short so it doesn't look too intense, but I just love how dramatic this color is.

I really haven't gotten into a lot of new fall shows this year, but so far I've been enjoying Marry Me! I loved Casey Wilson on Happy Endings (which I still can't believe got cancelled!) and this show has a similar vibe. It's definitely silly and time will tell if it's just a flash in the pan, but for now I like it!

Target Thank You Notes
With my baby shower in Michigan and my baby shower in Portland, I've had a lot of thank you notes to write the past month! I love stationary and I've had great luck lately finding thank you cards at Target! They don't have a big selection online, but they have a ton of cute designs in store and I think all the ones I got have gold foil accents. (I actually didn't get these pink ones, but loved the design!)

I heard about these new lipsticks from Maybelline through YouTube/Instagram and everyone seemed to be raving about this color 'Touch of Spice.' Everywhere I looked, it seemed like it was sold out and I thought I was never going to find it. However, I finally snagged a tube at Target the other day and I've really been loving it! It's a mauve rose color that has some red and brown undertones, making it perfect for fall. The formula is very opaque and for being a matte lipstick it's not super drying.

Child's Play Halloween Candy
Being this is our first fall in our new house, I really have no idea if we'll be getting trick or treaters...but of course, I had to buy candy just in case! (And pretty sure I bought enough candy for about 200+ kids...whoops) I bought lots of the normal chocolate favorites, but I also couldn't resist getting a bag of Child's Play because I love Tootsie Rolls and Dots! And I realize that I might be in the minority on this one, as I think a lot of people (Cam included) think this is stuff the worst of the worst when it comes to Halloween candy compared to chocolate...but guess what? More for me!

What about you? What are you loving this month?

Finally, I'm guest posting for Erin today over at Bakery Bingo so be sure to go check that out!

Pregnancy // Babymoon Weekend

This weekend, Cameron and I escaped for a little weekend away in the Gorge!

The whole idea of taking a babymoon (aka a vacation before the baby comes) is becoming pretty popular these days and it's great, in theory. However, for us this year has already been pretty busy with travel and so there was just no way that taking a more extended trip was going to fit in our schedule. But we still wanted to take one more little getaway together before really settling into nesting mode, and so the Columbia River Gorge seemed like the perfect option!

Sure, we've been there a bunch of times and it's only a short drive from Portland but usually when we go to the Gorge, it's to do a hike or to take out of town guests to Multnomah Falls and so we've never actually stayed for the weekend. But it's such a pretty area that's incredibly relaxing and so it was nice to have more extended time there to just soak it in! It was great to just take a leisurely drive and enjoy the scenery. And although the Gorge is stunning when it's sunny, I was actually hoping for cloudy, stormy weather...and that's just what we got! There's just something so dramatic and cozy about dark skies and fog rolling amongst the trees in that's really beautiful in its own way.

We actually decided to drive out to Hood River, OR for lunch on Saturday, and ended up stopping off at a cute little pumpkin patch which was a fun detour. I just love this time of year!

Despite a Michigan football loss, we still had fun in Hood River - it's just such a cute little town!

For the weekend, we stayed at Skamania Lodge in Washington, which is such a lovely spot! It has a rustic yet elegant vibe, and there are lots of giant windows with great views of the Gorge.

Usually Cam and I are very go go go, and so it was nice to have a weekend to just relax and do nothing! On Saturday, I got an awesome prenatal massage at the Lodge's spa, and then after, we just sat by the fire, drank hot chocolate, and just watched the was great!
After dinner Saturday night :)
On Sunday morning, the sun came out for a bit and we had a delicious brunch :)
They had tons of fresh seafood including yummy crab legs!
The back of the lodge

Skamania Lodge is a great home base if you're looking to explore the Gorge, but the best part of the weekend was just getting to relax and spend a lot of time with my husband :)

On the way home, we ended up stopping off at Oneonta Gorge. This was a hike I SO wanted to do this summer, but we didn't have a chance. (Plus, I was a little concerned about doing it pregnant as my balance hasn't been the best and the hike involves some climbing/wading through chilly water) Even though we just stopped off at the turnoff and didn't hike this time, it was still a really pretty spot and I can't wait to come back when the weather is warm!

I'm really thankful that Cameron and I had this weekend to spend time together and were able to get out and enjoy the beauty of the Pacific Northwest in the fall. But now it's time to buckle down and get things done before the baby gets here...only a few more weeks to go! :)
