PDX Style // Marine Layer

Happy Monday everyone! It's hard to believe we're almost to the end of August - crazy! I know that we'll still (hopefully) have lots of nice summery weather ahead in September here in Oregon, but after Labor Day it's really hard not to start mentally getting in fall mode, at least for me. But I've got a lot of things I'm excited about this fall (not to mention a lot to do before baby boy makes his debut!) and so I'm definitely OK with the change of seasons. Plus, I feel like summer has been a little more sporadic for posting here on the blog just due to busy schedules, so I'm looking forward to posting more frequently in the coming months as there's a lot I'm excited to share with you!

One of those things that I'm excited to share with you (see how I did that seamless segway? Ha...) is an awesome new store open here in Portland called Marine Layer! I actually discovered Marine Layer last year when we were visiting San Franciso last May; I happened across their store in Hayes Valley and really liked the vibe! I ended up getting a sweatshirt that I love, and just became a huge fan of the brand. That's why I was happy to see that they opened up a store in Portland right in Union Way. Their clothes have a casual, West Coast vibe that fits in perfectly in PDX. Think well-made basics like soft t-shirts, cozy sweatshirts, and laid-back dresses that you can wear for years. However, the stores in Union Way are somewhat small, and so when I heard that Marine Layer was going to be opening another (much larger) store in Portland, I was pumped!

I recently had the chance to visit their new store here, and it's pretty much the cutest thing ever. It's such an adorable space that you just want to spend time in, and I was instantly obsessed with the colorful, West Coast-inspired decor! I snapped a few photos to show you what I mean...

Adorable, right? The Marine Layer store here in Portland is located in a such great spot too, right by Salt & Straw on NW 23rd (between Kearny and Johnson) so I would highly recommend checking it out!

The folks at Marine Layer were kind enough to gift me a couple of pieces to try out, and I've been getting a lot of wear out of them this month! They don't actually make maternity clothes, but all of their clothing is so soft and comfortable that it totally works with the growing bump. Plus it's nice to know I'll be able to keep wearing these clothes once I'm not pregnant too! :)

This Gray & White Ministripe Tank Maxi Dress is totally my style, and perfect for summer days in Portland. The silhouette is really flattering, and the slub fabric stretches without being too clingy. Plus, I like that it's a little shorter than a traditional maxi because it makes it easier to move!

The other piece I picked  is this Light Gray Open Cardigan - it's SO incredibly soft! It's made out of Marine Layer's softest fabric, and it's literally one of the most comfortable things I've ever worn. It's perfect for traveling or throwing in your bag on those summer days with cool mornings or places with frigid air conditioning, plus the open style is perfect for both maternity and after! (I don't see this particular piece on their website anymore, but this one is a similar style and also really cute!)

I don't normally do too many of these types of posts on my blog because I only want to promote things that I truly believe in. I think that Marine Layer is such a cool brand, and their comfy, casual aesthetic totally aligns with my own personal style, which is why I wanted to share it with all of you. I couldn't be happier that they have a presence in Portland, so if you're local, definitely check them out!
