Friends // Welcome to Portland!

The past two weekends, I've been fortunate to have two different friends from college come visit me here in Portland! Although we did get some rain both weekends (hence they Hunter photo!), I was still able to show them both what I love about this city! Here are some photos, if you'd like to see...

My friend Lisa lives in Ann Arbor, Michigan and was one of my roommates in college. While she was here, Michigan was still in the basketball tournament, so we went to one of my favorite Portland breweries, Cascade Brewing Barrel House, to watch the game.
Friday night, we had dinner at Racion and it was really good! I've got a whole post of restaurant reviews from the past two weekends that I'll be sharing soon, so stay tuned for that!
Saturday morning, we took a spin class at my favorite Portland studio, BurnCycle! Things in Portland tend to revolve around eating/drinking, this was a fun way to get the weekend off to a healthy start!
Saturday afternoon, we headed south of Portland to the Wilamette Valley to go to some wineries! We had a great time, and I've got a whole post about the wineries we visited that I'll be sharing soon!
This guy played chauffeur slash photographer Saturday :)
While at one of the wineries Saturday, the weather finally cleared up a little bit and we got some sunshine - it was so gorgeous!
On Sunday, we got brunch at Broder Nord
I hadn't been there since when my friend Mike visited Portland, so it was fun to go back!
Cam looking oh-so-happy about photos during breakfast, ha!
A view of the Fremont Bridge and then a quick picture back at our apartment to wrap up Lisa's visit - so glad she could come see Portland!

This past weekend, my friend Alyssa came to visit!
She lives in Washington DC but is a consultant and is currently staffed on a project in California, so it was really quick for her to fly up for the weekend!

Friday night, I took her to Salt & Straw - a must when visiting Portland!
Saturday, we got up a waited in line to have brunch at Screen Door! This was actually my first time eating there, and I had been wanting to try it for ages! Let's just say it was worth the wait :)
Cam & Alyssa waiting in the rain to head in for brunch!
Saturday it rained...but we still had fun walking around the city!
We couldn't resist the photo booth at the Ace Hotel - a great rainy day activity :)
Sunday, we took it easy before heading out to the Columbia River Gorge...
First stop? The Vista House!
The views of the Gorge from the Vista House were stunning!
Finally, we stopped by Multnomah Falls and they were absolutely roaring!
Even though I've been to the falls many times now, it still never gets old!

When friends come visit it's really great chance to show them all the fun things take make this city such an awesome place to live. Plus, because I'm still new to Portland myself, it's really nice to completely play tourist for a few days. I had a blast with both of my friends and hope they'll come visit again soon :)

  3. I've been following your blog since I decided to move to Portland (moving there in June!) and it has been such a great resource. Since reading your blog, I've added so many things to my to-do list for once I get to PDX! If you have any other blogs to recommend for someone new to Portland, I would love to know!

  4. Were Dobbes, Winderlea and Arglye some of the wine stops you made? Not that I can tell from the pictures because I go there too often or anything haha. I have been really wanting to try out the screen door! I will have to make a trip there some weekend and wait in line!

  6. Oh my gosh the Screen Door is AMAZING!! You have to go back for dinner. The fried chicken, shrimp and grits, and macaroni and cheese are TO DIE FOR. And I have a bit of a soft spot for Multnomah Falls. My husband proposed to me there. :)

  7. What a great idea to incorporate a fitness class into your weekend plans. I always feel so sluggish from all the eating and drinking when friends come to visit. This is a great way to counteract that!

  9. I love having people visit so I can play guide, and show off the city! I think it might be sort of fun since you seem so experienced in this to write a few example guides for visitors with itineraries based on what you have done!

  13. You are such a great tour guide! I feel like I alway get stuck in the rut of nothing but restaurants. Spin class and out of town day trips are a great idea! Rock climbing would be a fun detour too!
