Oscar Hits & Misses

The Academy Awards are one of fashion's biggest nights and seeing the gorgeous dresses on the red carpet is something I look forward to every year. Unfortunately, I wasn't able to watch this year's show because I was traveling home from Park City (more on that later this week!) but I had to check out the photos of what everyone wore! Overall, I wasn't really that impressed with the field but I thought there were some great dresses in the mix! Here are some of my favorites...

 Cate Blanchett in Giorgio Armani
I think that Cate has such a unique, individual sense of style and can really pull off interesting choices that other people might not be brave enough to try. I thought that this dress was so intricate and beautiful and really fitting for an Oscar winner!

 Lupita Nyong'o in Prada
This was the girl to watch on the red carpet this year. She has made such gorgeous, colorful choices during awards season and I thought this pale blue dress was stunning on her! I love that it's totally different than some of the other things she's worn recently, and she looks absolutely radiant in it.

Sandra Bullock in Alexander McQueen
Seriously, Sandy rocked it last night! I absolutely love navy and this dress is perfection on her. It's such a classic look and her hair adds to the glamorous, old Hollywood feel.

 Kate Hudson in Versace
I feel like this dress is similar to some other things that Kate has worn in the past, but taken to the next level. It's gorgeous, dramatic, and I think it's just so perfect for the Oscars.

 Charlize Theron in Dior
I think this dress is stunning. Charlize Theron makes really great choices on the red carpet and this dress is no exception. The silhouette is classic but the sheer detail makes it feel really modern.

Jenna Dewan-Tatum in Reem Acra
I love everything about this dress - the color, the ruffles, and the sequins - it's just gorgeous! I think it's so perfect for the Oscars and looks really feminine and modern!

Brad Pitt in Tom Ford and Angelina Jolie in Elie Saab
Although I'm not really an Angelina Jolie fan, I thought that she looked really glamorous last night. She and Brad Pitt look like total Hollywood royalty and I really loved their look overall.

Finally, on to my least favorite look of the night...

 Amy Adams in Gucci
I am a huge fan of Amy Adams, but I thought that her look last night was so blah. Although her navy dress is timeless, to me it's just kind of boring for the Oscars. I think I would have liked it more if she would have worn her hair down (more like Sandra Bullock) because I thought the hairstyle she chose wasn't very flattering. I also thought that because the dress was so simple, she could have gone with much more dramatic jewelry than what she chose. A missed opportunity in my opinion.

What did you think of the last night's Oscar looks? Who was your favorite?

  2. I agree with you on the Amy Adams look-- I love her and was disappointed that she didn't take more of a risk with her choice of gowns. This one was kind of dull for me. I wish I was more of an Angelina fan because, I have to admit, she looked really stunning on the carpet. My favorite of all was definitely Kate Hudson. I think every girl should have access to this dress. :)

  6. I find the Oscars boring, but I do love the dress recaps the next day. And can I say how much I love Lupita Nyong'o? Especially after her speech at the Essence awards luncheon: http://www.upworthy.com/oscar-winner-lupita-nyongos-speech-on-beauty-that-left-an-entire-audience-speechless?g=2&c=ufb1

  7. I loved Lupita dresses all season long as well. I am such a fan of the full skirts with long trains that are all over the red carpet right now!

  9. They were all so gorgeous! I actually didn't really care for Anne Hathaway's look, even though I've read it made the "good" list. And Julia Roberts was on the "bad" list (according to TMZ) but I liked it! :)

  11. I didn't watch the Oscars, but I do love the fashions. I have to say, though, that Charlize Theron kind of reminds me of Morticia Addams in that dress....
