While it doesn't officially start for another week, the absolutely GORGEOUS weather (mid-60's and sunny!) here in Portland this week has me in a spring-like mood! I feel like the country as a whole is really looking forward to spring; the Midwest/East Coast has had an absolutely brutal winter this year, so I feel like everyone is especially ready for sunshine and warmer temps in the days to come!
A big spring trend I've been noticing so far this year is definitely pink! It seems like I've been seeing this shade pop up everywhere from fashion to home decor to makeup, and obviously (given my blog name!) I'm definitely a huge fan! As I've mentioned before, I'm somewhat of a makeup fanatic and so I thought it would be fun to share a few of my favorite "pink" products that I am loving for spring!
When it comes to nails, there are so many great pinks out there, but these are three of my favorites!
I am a big fan of the Sally Hansen Complete Salon Manicure formula; it's smooth, it's long wearing, and I love the wide brush. Shell We Dance is a great sheer pale pink that's subtle but very pretty. Essie polishes are probably my favorite though because you just can't beat the color selection! Fiji is a very opaque cotton candy pink, where as Mod Square is a bright Barbie pink - both perfect for spring!
When the Naked 3 palette came out late last year there was a lot of hype about it, I wasn't planning on buying it because I already have the original Naked palette (which I love!), plus I wasn't sure that the pink-toned shadows would look right on my complexion. However, once I saw the beautiful rose gold packaging (I'm such a sucker for packaging, gahhh) and how beautiful the shades were in person, I was totally sold and had to have it. The eye shadows are much more versatile and wearable than I initially anticipated and I think they'd really look great on anyone!
Pink can be a difficult color to pull off on on the eyes because if not worn correctly it can make you look tired or sick. Although the overall color tone of the palette is pink, the shades are actually somewhat neutral and I like that there is a good mix of light and dark colors. These shadows are perfect for creating pretty, romantic looks and they are absolutely perfect for spring!
Strange is the shadow in the palette farthest to the left, but I ran out of room when I first started swatching and had to put the three darkest colors at the front of my arm...whoops! The coloring isn't perfect here, but it gives you a little bit better idea of what the shadows look like on the skin. My favorite colors are Limit, Trick, Liar, and Mugshot...but they are all pretty!
When it comes to drugstore eye products, I'm a big fan of Maybelline Color Tattoos! I don't typically love cream eye shadows, but these are very pigmented, long-wearing, and they're versatile in that they can be used as an eye shadow base or worn on their own. They have a Metals collection of shades that offers great shine, and the shade "Inked in Pink" is a perfect spring color!
I've recently been on the hunt for a good cool-toned blush to add to my collection. I'd heard great things about Tarte's Amazonian Clay 12-Hour Blush so when I saw that they came out with pretty new berry pink shade called Flush, I had to have it for spring! I love that it's completely matte and it's very pigmented. It looks almost purple in the pan, but it's definitely more of a pink when swatched.
When it comes to lips, I gravitate towards pink shades year-round, but in the spring these colors are particularly enticing! Recently, I've added a few new products to my collection that I'm loving!
This was my first time trying Nars Lipgloss and this sheer light pink, Turkish Delight, is one of their most popular shades. The texture is really smooth and not sticky at all! I was a little unsure about Khroma Joysticks because they are branded by the Kardashians (mehhh)...however, I was intrigued by the concept of a creamy long-wearing lip color so I decided to give them a try. I love the smell and they're really pigmented, plus they are relatively inexpensive. (You can find them at Ulta but I think they're also available at some drugstores because I found mine at Duane Reade when I was in NYC) As for the Urban Decay Revolution Lipsticks, I had heard fantastic things about the formula and raves about this particular shade. I love the packaging and think that the color is really pretty...although, given the price, I don't know if they're that great to warrant buying any others.
So these swatches may be slightly misleading - Native is actually quite pale on the lips, definitely a very nude pink, and I think it may be too light for some people despite looking darker in the tube. I like it, but I think it looks better when you use a lip liner and layer some sort of gloss over it vs. wearing it by itself. The Khroma Joystick is a definitely a Barbie pink, but it's very pretty for spring! Turkish Delight is really pale, but it looks great layered over other colors to help lighten them up a bit!
Last but not least, I have a skincare product that I thought I'd include since it's in a (sort of) pink bottle, ha! (The box is pink but the glass of the bottle is more of a pinkish red...just go with it) Facials oils are a big trend right now in skincare, and there are so many new products on the market. After trying a few samples, I decided to purchase this Tsubaki Beauty Oil from Boscia and I absolutely love it! It smells SO good and since I have oily skin, I love that it's not too heavy. (I just wear it at night though!) If you're looking to try out the facial oil trend, I'd definitely suggest checking this one out!
So there you have it, a few of my (current) favorite pink spring products! I have a quite a few more beauty-related posts I'm hoping to share in the weeks and months to come, but if there are any requests I'd love to hear them because I could seriously talk about this stuff all day! :)
