A kind of boring shopping post.

How's that for a title?
Ha.
What can I say, it's the end of the week and I'm out of ideas :)

So I love reading through style bloggers' posts where they share their current wishlists or their favorite picks from big sales at places like Nordstrom or Shopbop. However, it seems that these posts often contain lots of pricier items and so I'm always a little curious what they actually end up buying. While I do occasionally like to splurge on a staple items like a great coat or boots, typically I am someone who looks for deals when I'm shopping and I love finding something on sale. And not like "Wow, these shoes are marked down from $800 to $500" on sale, but more like "Wow, this sweater is marked down to $12" type of sale...just keepin' it real. Ha! Plus, my style is really pretty simple. I tend to gravitate towards more casual basics like a good t-shirt, a great pair of jeans, and colors like black, gray, and navy. However, I do like to buy trendier things to mix it up from time to time which is all the more reason why I shop sales or at more budget-friendly stores like H&M, Target, or Forever21 as I refuse to spend a lot of money on something I know is probably going to be out of style next year.

So that's why today I thought it might be kind of fun to show you some things I've actually purchased recently. They aren't necessarily the crazy exciting high-fashion items you might see on other blogs, but rather reasonably-priced pieces that I think will make a good addition to my wardrobe this winter.
(Also, this is not a sponsored post nor does it contain affiliate links, I just like the stuff I bought and wanted to share!)

Nordstrom is currently having their big Half Yearly sale for Women & Kids right now, and I think that the sale goes through the weekend? Not 100% but it is still going on as of today on their website. They do have some good markdowns, and it's a great way to get a jump start on Christmas shopping...or to just pick up some items that might be missing from your own closet before the holidays start.

I only bought one item that was part of the sale, this black Halogen Crewneck Sweater. Pretty basic, but fits well and it's the type of thing that I know I'll end up wearing a lot this winter. Like I said, my style is pretty simple and I love wearing black! They do have a ton of cute sweaters on sale, so I might go back this weekend to see if I can find anything else before the sale ends.

I also picked up this V-Neck Sweater Dress in the Junior's section at Nordstrom; it wasn't part of the Half-Yearly sale, but I just really liked it. I love that it's not totally shapeless but also not super clingy, just cozy, cute, and perfect for wearing with leggings. It also comes in a darker gray as well.

I have been seeing Aztec print sweaters everywhere this fall and I always love them on other people, but hadn't found any I liked that weren't either super expensive or really cheap looking. However, I saw this Southwestern Open Front Jacket at Forever21 the other day and couldn't resist buying it! It's definitely more jacket material vs. being a sweater and it kind of reminds me of a Pendleton blanket, in a good way. Also, I know some people are of the opinion that Forever21 is a teen store; I think if you have the time and energy to look, you can find some cute things that are appropriate at any age. Just my two cents! I wore the jacket to an event last night and I love how warm and cozy it is:

This is totally one of those pieces that girls will probably think is really cute, but guys...not so much. Some bloggers at the event I attended last night were like "Omg, that jacket is adorable!" whereas Cameron's reaction to it was "You look like you're wearing a blanket and the pattern hurts my eyes."
LOL :)

One of the great things about living in downtown Portland is that I have a CityTarget that's about a 15 minute walk from my apartment! It's a somewhat smaller store (with no shoe department and limited home decor stuff) so it's not quite the same as going to a big suburban Target, but it's still fun to look around from time to time. The other day I stopped in and they had everything from their Phillip Lim collaboration on sale. I snagged this 3.1 Phillip Lim Animal Print Knit Dress that I've been seeing all around the blogging world for only $8.98!! Score! I also picked up a really cute black tunic top on clearance for literally $5 and then a gray and white houndstooth sweater (that I'm wearing in this post), but couldn't find links to either on the Target website. Gotta love those Tar-jay deals!

Speaking of designer collabs, H&M's highly-anticipated collection by Isabel Marant debuted yesterday. I stopped by the store in downtown Portland last night to check it out and this is what I found:

Only three measly little pieces of clothing and a few pairs of earrings left!
Whomp whomp.
My sis said she snagged at black dress at H&M in NYC yesterday, and it looks like things are still available online. Nothing really caught my eye though, I just wanted to see what all the fuss was about!

That's all for me today friends! Thanks again for all your sweet comments on our apartment tour yesterday, I really appreciate it! Have a fabulous weekend!

PS: Since I'm pretty much sharing five different fashion finds, I thought I'd go ahead and link up for 5 on Friday as well--I didn't follow the format exactly this week, but hopefully that's ok! :)
