As you may have guessed from the header of my blog, one of Portland's nicknames is the "City of Roses." Since moving there last month, I can definitely attest to the truth of that label--there are seriously gorgeous roses all over the place! I never realized there were so many different colors and varieties and it's been really fun to get to see them in bloom all over the city this summer.
One of the things I had on my list to do before summer ended was to visit the Portland International Rose Test Garden. Set up in the West Hills, it's a beautiful place where they test out new varieties of roses. I wanted to make sure we went before we left for Michigan, and so Cameron and I stopped by after work last week. I'm so glad we did too--it's absolutely gorgeous!
I also got the bright idea that it would be a perfect place to take a few photos for a "fashion" post.
After all, I read quite a few different blogs that frequently feature outfit photos taken by the blogger's husband or boyfriend and thought, "How hard could it be?"
Harder than it looks.
Lesson learned, I am not a model and Cameron is not a fashion photographer. I cannot do a serious face to save my life, and of course it started raining while we were trying to take these photos.
(Which I guess I should get used to now that I live in Oregon!)
See what I mean about the serious face? Ha!
(This was the only non-smiling one I allowed, the rest were just ridiculous)
So even though it was a little rainy and none of the photos are very "model-y" (I'm smiling in all the rest), it was still a fun way to spend a Monday night. The roses were stunning and I'm happy I have a husband that humors me when I ask him to take 4820123 pictures of me in a rose garden :)
You can't see it in these pictures, but the dress I'm wearing actually has little rosebuds printed all over it...hence why I wore it to the Rose Garden...because I enjoy being "theme-y" like that.
I was initially just planning on wearing the dress by itself and going with more of a "last hurrah for summer" look, but it ended up being kind of chilly the night we took these photos. I decided that it would be a perfect time to go for more of a transitional outfit instead, which ends up being great for September. By pairing a light sundress with booties and a leather jacket, you can easily wear your summer pieces like this into the fall and it's nice for those days when the weather is slightly erratic!
Just kidding, I let another non-smiling shot slip in...ha :)

I'd highly recommend a trip to the International Rose Test Gardens if you're visiting Portland in the summer months. It's such a relaxing way to spend an afternoon, plus it's free! I'm looking forward to doing many more touristy-but-awesome things like this in my new city in the months to come!
