One of my all-time favorite summer activities is to browse the local farmers market on a Saturday morning. It's such an all-encompassing sensory experience; from looking at all the brightly-colored produce on display to taking in the smells from flowers and spices to being caught up in the hustle and bustle of the crowd, and of course, tasting samples! Shopping for produce at the farmers market is a fantastic way to enjoy fruits and veggies when they're in season, which is awesome. I also love that it helps support local farmers and allows everyone to gain a better understanding of where their food is coming from. Plus, it definitely beats going to the grocery store on a beautiful morning!
One of the (many) awesome things about Portland is that they have a Farmers Market somewhere in the city almost every single day of the week! The largest of these markets takes place on Saturdays at Portland State University and it's quite the event! Cameron and I briefly checked it out on the day we moved in to our new apartment, but this past Saturday we were able to spend a little more time exploring. The Portland Farmers Market has such a wide variety of vendors, I had a great time browsing and picking up some groceries for the week! Plus, it's really fantastic people watching :)
Also, none of the photos in this post have been edited--all the colors were just that vibrant!
Dahlias are in season right now and they had so many different varieties for sale!
Totally reminded me of Portlandia--"We can pickle that!"
Raw, vegan, gluten-free, and bike powered...this is also Portland in a nutshell, ha!
What your farmers market doesn't have a guy playing a didgeridoo?
In addition to produce, there are also a lot of great food options from restaurant vendors.
Cameron and I ended up deciding on Verde Cocina, which is a farm-to-table Mexican restaurant that I have been wanting to try for awhile now!
We were happy to see they had a Paleo option! (We ended up getting something different, but it's nice to know they have it for the future!)
Everything looked so fresh!
Our breakfast--it was delish!
If you get the chance, I highly suggest checking out the Portland Farmers Market! Cam and I plan on going as much as we can into the fall, and I look forward to many more Saturday mornings like this!
